Landmark anti-corruption conference takes place in Ukraine
The 922 speakers and participants gathered for the International Anti-corruption Conference “Preventing. Fighting. Acting.”, held in the Kyev Olimpiisky arena on 16 November. The event, which was held under the auspices of Ukraine’s National Reform Council (a high-level coordination body for advancing priority reforms in the country), was co-organized by the Council of Europe and the EU through its Partnership Cooperation Facility, as well as a number of other international organizations and technical assistance initiatives. The Conference was attended by multiple representatives of the Government, Parliament, civil society, media and international organizations, as well as experts from 15 countries. The forum spanned some of the crucial areas for anticorruption work lying ahead: from prevention and investigation of high-level corruption to issues of asset recovery, instilling zero-tolerance within the society, collaborating with the business-community and mainstreaming anti-corruption into the decentralization reform. Council of Europe experts were present in 4 out of 7 panel discussions sharing their views and knowledge for more comprehensive and sustainable anti-corruption reform gains in Ukraine.
