European standards of human rights education are now available for lawyers in Ukraine

On 9 December 2015, the Council of Europe will present its new distance learning course on human rights available in Ukrainian language “Introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights and case-law of the European Court of Human Rights”. Main national stakeholders in charge of training for lawyers as well as the professional training of judges, prosecutors, lawyers and police officers will have an opportunity to obtain more information about the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP programme) such as, its methodology and online free platform, with both self-learning resources and distance-learning courses.

The event will also feature discussion on place and role of human rights education in Ukraine, unified guidelines on human rights education for lawyers and should give an impetus to a commitment undertaken by the Government of Ukraine when adopting the National Human Rights Strategy with the emphasis on awareness raising in human rights. National training institutions will be encouraged to adapt and include HELP courses into the training curricular

The learning course has been developed under the umbrella of the Council of Europe HELP Programme - Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals - and adapted for Ukraine within the framework of the joint EU/CoE project on “Strengthening the Implementation of Human Rights Standards in Ukraine”.
