A workshop on media coverage of elections was held in Baku on 23 October 2015. The event included representatives of national authorities, media, civil society and international organizations, as well as 22 journalists, including 4 from the regions.

The event aimed to raise awareness among journalists on COE and European standards on media coverage of elections in light of the upcoming November 2015 Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. Deputy Head of Department of Public-Political Issues of the Presidential Administration attended the workshop and made an opening speech emphasizing the importance of such events. Experts from the Central Election Commission and the Press Council made presentations on Azerbaijani legislation and practice on media coverage of elections. The second part of the workshop was on European standards on media coverage of elections and case study on the relevant topic. COE expert made a presentation on the COE standards on media coverage of elections and on European best practices.

The Council of Europe organised this workshop  in cooperation with the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan Press Council,it is part of the joint EU/COE PCF Project “Freedom of expression and media freedom”
