International Conference on legal education and science in the law enforcement sphere in Uzbekistan

On 1-2 December 2023, the Council of Europe, in co-operation with the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, organised an international scientific conference entitled “Legal education and science in the law enforcement sphere: current trends and future directions”. The conference was organised on the occasion of the first anniversary of the establishment of the Law Enforcement Academy. The aim of the conference was to present the current state of play on various topics, to share experiences, good practices, and areas for improvement.

The two-day conference, which was held both in person and online, brought together more than 150 participants, mainly law enforcement officers, prosecutors and university professors from Uzbekistan, the Central Asia region and European countries.

Mr Yuldoshev Nigmatilla Tulkinovich, the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Uzbekistan, opened the conference, which was held in Tashkent on the first day. The agenda included panels with national and international experts, who debated on the implementation of international standards in the field of combating corruption and money laundering, as well as the training of investigative personnel. The representative of the Council of Europe moderated a session on innovative approaches in human rights education, with the participation of Council of Europe experts. During this session, the participants, among others, got acquainted with the Council of Europe HELP programme and its online platform, which offers more than 45 courses on various human rights topics.

On the second day of the Conference, which was held in Samarkand, the discussion focused on crime prevention, in particular national challenges, as well as the exchange of best practices and prospects for the improvement of co-operation on national and transborder levels.

The activity was organised in the framework of the action "HELP in Central Asia", within the Central Asia Rule of Law Programme 2020-2024, a joint initiative co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
