Project of the Vocational Secondary School "Isuf Gjata”:
Professional education, a great opportunity for inclusion
Specific project’s objectives:
- To improve inclusion and the educational and social level of the pupils with disabilities
- To reduce the number of pupils with attendance problems and at risk of social exclusion, in comparison with the last year
- To provide sustainable inclusive policies and practices
Project’s main activities:
Campaign for all the stakeholders:
- Organising coordination meeting of the project management group and preparing the school’s environment,
- Preparing and distributing the invitation and information sheet to different stakeholders ,
- Sensitizing banner entitled "All together for a more inclusive education",
- Awareness-raising of the community through visual media;
- Preparation of school anthem with focus on inclusion in professional education
Identifying student groups to be involved in the project and assessing their needs:
- Preparing a selection criteria form for the target groups;
- Creating a database information on pupils belonging to the target group by the head teacher
- Questionnaires, focus groups, interviews to assess the needs of the target group;
- Preparing survey form to assess the level of acceptance and attitudes towards pupils with special needs by other pupils;
Capacity building :
- Training of teachers on inclusion and guidelines for Individual Educational Plan;
- Training of school team: multiple intelligence and application of participatory methods in Professional Education;
- Internal training: the head teacher and her/his role in the inclusion process;
- Training of the Board and the Council of Parents: their role and participation in improving school inclusive policies;
- Training parents of targeted group of pupils in the age of adolescence on characteristics of an inclusive parent;
- Training of Student Government: "Different but equal”
Improvement of infrastructure for the implementation of inclusive practices:
- Adjusting the hall for inclusive activities
- Adaptation of sports environment: underlying iron in the wall, Swedish scale, the rubberized floor carpet;
- Preparation and enrichment of the project table/board with information and photos of the project activities
Improvement of inclusive practices and implementation of inclusive methods in teaching:
- Revision and adjustment of annual plans of the subjects with elements of inclusion, to be implemented in November;
- Drafting and implementing the Individual Educational Plans for pupils with disabilities and pupils coming from migration;
- About 8 open classes or classes with 8 models of teaching with focus on inclusion during the year;
- Exchanging experience with a professional secondary school in Osijek, Croatia, especially on methods for inclusion of adolescent
- Implementation of inclusive activities with custody class during the year
Enhancement of school development policies:
- Revision of medium-term plan and drafting the annual plan with focus on inclusion (September 2014);
- Revision of School Internal Regulations and including in it the inclusion elements;
- Round tables with Regional Education Directorate , Businesses, UK, Board, Community, taking real responsibilities (cooperation agreements);
Reflection and improvement
- Revising of Individual Educational Plans;
- Analysis with the topic: Problems of attendance and work done for the inclusion of the pupils at risk of social exclusion;
- Round table with the stakeholders: Obstacles faced and the possibility of improvement
Interactive activities to increase social cohesion:
- Open Day "Occupation and me”;
- Parents' day: "The child and me”;
- My day (20th of November 2014, 8th of April 2015);
- Thanksgiving day (Pupils-Teachers-Parents)
Closing the project, tasks for the future:
- Questionnaires, focus groups for obtaining opinions and results compared with the beginning of the project (May 2015); Preparation of the Information Brochure (April-June 2015);
- Closing project activity and feedback (30th of June 2015)
Project’s target groups:
- Direct beneficiaries: pupils with special needs, 15-21 years old, at risk of social exclusion or dropping out of school, school teachers, parents of children of target groups, Parent’s Council, Pupils’ Government and school board members
- Indirect beneficiaries: all the other school pupils, the community, businesses and Regional Education Directory
