Project of the Mix General and Vocational Secondary School “Ivan Goran Kovačić”: Incubator of success

Specific project’s objectives
  • To provide opportunities to pupils to gain experience, expand knowledge, develop  skills and contribute to the community;
  • To encourage and support creative energy of young volunteers;
  • To interconnect pupils, pupils and teachers,  pupils with local Community and school to parents;
  • To connect and  join all relevant stakeholders (all interested groups)  through the establishment of the Volunteer Club,  the implementation of "Open Doors," scientific research colony and donor dinner.
Project’s main activities:
Staff trainings for work with talented pupils and volunteer work: 
  • Seminars for about 25 teachers - accredited by the Institute of Education in Montenegro:
    • - Detection, work and further promotion of gifted pupils;
    • - Support to talented and gifted pupils;
    • - Working with gifted children.
  • Peer learning and exchange of experience: Three professors will visit schools in Macedonia and Montenegro to get acquainted with their program for inclusive education,  work with talented pupils  and work of Volunteer Clubs. In Macedonia, they  will pay visit to Gymnasium and Vocational school “Taki Daskalo”, Bitola, Macedonia, in October, while in Montenegro The School of Electrical Engineering, “Vaso Aligrudić” and Gymnasium “Slobodan Škerović”, in Podgorica.
Equipping facilities for work with talented pupils and volunteer work, such as: ceremonial hall, office number 50, with occasional use of offices: 1, 2, 49, 82, 72, 74 and gym.
Procurement of teaching material and additional literature  to work with talented pupils.
  • An interactive methods of teaching imply the application of IT developments and  procurement of appropriate material: interactive whiteboard, tablet computers and software that connects them. CDs from different sciences will develop abstract thinking, creativity, faster progress in a modern and  active teaching. Oil paints, easel, chart table and so,  will enable the practical application of acquired knowledge.  Pupils will spend about 10 hours a week using this material and improve their capacities.
Detecting  talented pupils and participants of Volunteer Club by: 
  • Collecting data from primary schools on gifted pupils who are enrolled in our school. 
  • Initial testing of pupils in order to identify potential of pupils. 
  • Questionnaire of teachers  and pupils on attitudes about volunteerism (by the project team and pedagogical- psychological department  in school)
  • Analysis of success in the school and extracurricular activities
Individual Education Program  for gifted pupils: 
  • Visits to scientific research and artistic institutions
Volunteer  Club:  
  • Pupils will adopt information from their peers easier than from teachers and parents;
  • The Club will be presented in our school. other scholls in Herceg Novi, to parents,  media and local community;
  • Combined meetings with stakeholders will be held for monitoring and evaluation of the Volunteer Club.
Support for pupils who participate in the competitions:
  • Mentoring  work of volunteer teachers with pupils who are preparing to participate in national and international competitions (expert literature, consultations…)
  • The “Open door” day 
Exhibition and presentation of works of gifted pupils for public
  • Workshops to popularize science and art, for all pupils, parents, the local community,  raising  their level of their participation in the work of the school.
Scientific research colony and creative colony:
  • In April,  for five days, schools from Montenegro will participate by invitation, such as  Art Acadamy from Cetinje. Collaboration  of pupils and teachers in the region, exchange of experience and knowledge ...
Organizing a fund raising dinner (October and March):
  • Talented pupils will present  their work  and creativity to parents, local community. The collected funds would enable the purchase of equipment and materials for further work.
Internal evaluation of the project at its closure (school team).

These results will be guidelines for changes and  additions to the activities that will be implemented in the coming years, after the implementation of the project.

Project’s target groups
  • Direct beneficiaries: talented pupils.
  • Indirect beneficiaries: parents, Local and wider Community, all entities involved in the life and work of the school.
