The national Commission for the Coordination of Measures to Combate and Prevent Trafficking in Human Beings published its first annual report covering its activities for 2020. The launching event of this report, supported by the South Programme IV, took place on 15 February 2022 in the presence of Mr Abdellatif Ouahbi, Minister of Justice, Mr Alessio Cappellani, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Morocco, Mrs Carmen Morte-Gomez, Head of the Council of Europe’s office in Rabat, as well as representatives of International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and members of the Commission.
It is the first report of the Commission since its establishment in 2019, containing all the relevant information related to the activities and progress accomplished by Morocco in the field of combating trafficking in human beings, gathered in a single document in bilingual French-Arabic version.
The main priority areas of the report were presented by Mr Mellati, President of the national Commission, including the remaining challenges for a better protection of victims.
The Council of Europe remains at the disposal of the beneficiaries of the South Programme IV to further promote the sharing of such national experiences within the regional cooperation in the area of anti-trafficking in human beings. It should be recalled that the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings is open to accession by non-member States of the Organisation.
