Regional Launch of Council of Europe HELP course on International Cooperation in Criminal Matters

As part of the South Programme V, the Council of Europe, is organising the launch of the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) course on International Cooperation in Criminal Matters (ICCM) on 6-7 February in Strasbourg, France, with participants from the Southern Mediterranean region, member States of the Council of Europe, as well as representatives of the League of Arab States, EuroMed Justice and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL).

70 professionals and experts from different sectors, including judges, prosecutors, lawyers, law enforcement officers, child protection professionals, forensic doctors, psychologists, representatives of national authorities on fighting trafficking in human beings, social workers, and representatives of civil society will discuss recent developments and challenges to international cooperation with a focus on combatting trafficking in human beings and counterterrorism.

This cross-border launch will include presentations by experts, group discussions and exchange of ideas and best practices from which to draw conclusions . Participants will have the opportunity to visit and get acquainted with the European Court of Human Rights, including its functioning and case laws related to trafficking in human beings. The programme will include an exchange with the Executive Secretary of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings which deals with working methods and main findings of the Council of Europe Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA).
