Media’s Challenges in digital age addressed in an interprofessional workshop in Morocco

An interprofessional workshop, organised by the Council of Europe in the Framework of the South Programme V on 21 November 2023, gathered more than 20 participants to discuss the challenges faced by media in the digital age in Rabat.

Representatives of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, of the High Authority for Communication (HACA), and Moroccan media organizations reflected on the policy orientations as well as professional initiatives to be adopted to create a conducive environment for quality media to thrive online. The draft report prepared by the Committee of experts on increasing resilience of media (MSI-RES) on “Good practices for sustainable news media financing”, had contributed to highlight examples of economic models and practices adopted in Europe to accompany and sustain the digital transition of media.

The Representative of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication recalled the importance of measures to support for press media, including digital transformation, while HACA focused on the role of audio-visual regulatory authority in establishing a long-term strategy for digital transformation with new players.

The South Programme V is a joint programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe, co-financed by the two organisation and implemented by the Council of Europe.
