Consultative roundtable on draft National Strategy on Prevention of Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing / Albania

The fight against corruption, economic crime, money laundering, and the financing of terrorism remains one of the priorities of all programme Beneficiaries. This is why the programme has been continuously supporting the authorities and civil society organisations in strengthening their capacities to achieve their reform agenda in this area and promote the values of good governance and integrity.

The Government of Montenegro set out its strategic response to corruption by adopting the Strategy for the Fight against Corruption for 2024-2028 and its Action Plan for a two-year period. The programme has provided comprehensive support to the process of development of this strategic framework. The adoption of the next generation of anti-corruption strategic documents sets the fight against corruption high on the agenda and represents a long-term framework for the Government to tackle corruption and foster a culture of integrity and good governance.

The programme has been supporting the authorities of North Macedonia in conducting the national money laundering and financing of terrorism risk assessment since September 2023. In this context, more than 50 representatives from the public and private sector were brought together to jointly analyse the gathered data related to money launderinsg, financing of terrorism and proliferation. They also work together in the preparation of reports for separate modules of the methodology.

With the support of the programme, in co-operation with the Financial Intelligence Agency of Albania, a consultative roundtable was organised to finetune the draft National Strategy on Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (2024-2030). Being the first of its kind, the Strategy followed an inclusive and participatory process and is now in the final stage of being drafted.
