Building an equal and inclusive society: regional co-operation against racism

Recent initiatives took place in the framework of the programme, to address racism and intolerance by promoting regional co-operation while highlighting its importance as part of the EU accession process. By fostering dialogue and partnership among key Beneficiaries, these efforts seek to create a more inclusive society that respects human rights and promotes equality across diverse communities.

The two-day workshop on addressing hate speech and hate crime that took place at the premises of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, involved equality bodies from the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership regions.  The event gathered 50 representatives from both regions who discussed and exchanged on their best practices, measures and common challenges when addressing hate speech and hate crime.

The two-day conference, focusing on tackling racism and racial discrimination in the context of the EU accession process took also place in Strasbourg. Titled "Addressing racism and racial discrimination in the context of the EU accession process: state of play and tools available for the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership region", this event brought together experts, policymakers, and practitioners from the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership region who discussed joint approaches in addressing racism and discrimination in their respective regions.

Law enforcement institutions and civil society organisations from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and the Republic of Moldova met in Podgorica to address racism, discrimination, and the protection of minority groups, with a particular focus on the LGBTI community. This regional exchange is the result of the law enforcement institutions and CSOs network established in October 2023 with the support of the EU and the Council of Europe.
