Rad u ovoj oblasti fokusiran je na promovisanje slobode izražavanja i slobode medija u skladu sa evropskim standardima. Ciljna grupa su pravnici i pravnice (sudije/sutkinje, tužioci/tužiteljke, advokati/advokatice), policijski organi, regulatorna tela za medije i državna tijela zadužena za medijsko zakonodavstvo i pitanja u vezi sa novinarstvom, kao i medijski akteri (novinari/novinarke, udruženja novinara, samoregulatorna tela, studenti i studentkinje prava i novinarstva i druge medijske organizacije). Teme zaštite podataka i pristupa javnim informacijama su od posebnog interesa u okviru teme zaštite slobode izražavanja i medija.

Action “Freedom of expression and freedom of the media in Serbia” organised its second Steering Committee meeting

Action “Freedom of expression and freedom of the media in Serbia (JUFREX 2)” organised an online Steering Committee meeting with the representatives of the partner institutions and organisations that expressed their views on the implementation process and plans for the upcoming joint activities.

JUFREX 2 covers various freedom of expression related topics and is based on the multi-stakeholder approach which is crucial in ensuring results in media sector. Aside from work with legal professionals and police officers action activities include media regulatory authority, universities, students and other media actors.

The overall aim is to contribute to creation of favourable, safer and more pluralistic media environment. In the next implementation period JUFREX 2 will continue to provide support to implementation of European standards in the field of freedom of expression and freedom of the media.

Furthermore, it will continue to contribute to further increase of the capacities of all relevant actors, with a specific focus on the safety of journalists. Special attention will be given to gender aspects and gender-sensitive measures for protection of female journalists.

Finally, through its regional component, JUFREX 2 will ensure regional co-operation and exchange of the best practices between legal professionals, media regulators and universities.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Council of Europe and the European Union Delegation in Serbia as well as local institutions including the Ministry of European Integration, Ministry of Interior, Judicial Academy, Bar Association, Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media, Faculty of Political Sciences, Ombudsman, Journalists’ Association of Serbia and Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia.

This action is part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, a co-operation initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe, which aims at assisting Beneficiaries in the Western Balkans region and Turkey to comply with the Council of Europe standards and European Union acquis in the framework of the enlargement process, where relevant.
