On 27–28 August, teachers from six Resource Centres for Democratic School Culture from across Bosnia and Herzegovina came together in Teslić to jointly shape their vision, goals and plans for the future. The workshop provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, work together on practical solutions and address key questions and challenges involved in developing sustainable Resource Centres.

The Resource Centres, based in schools in Brčko District, Čelić, Kiseljak, Orašje, Prijedor, and Zenica[1],  are intended to serve not only their own school communities, but also as spaces where other schools and education professionals can learn, exchange experiences and access practical resources for strengthening democratic school culture.

A central part of the workshop was to initiate the preparation of three-year plans for the development and work of each Resource Centre, taking into account their specific contexts, priorities and needs. The aim is to set out a broader direction for how each Centre intends to strengthen its role, build its capacities, and respond to emerging needs over the three-year period. This is an important step towards ensuring that the Centres can sustain, take ownership and further develop their work beyond the project’s direct support.

Although each Resource Centre will develop its own plan, tailored to the needs of its local context, the workshop demonstrated a strong common ambition: to create schools where democratic values, participation, inclusion and respect for diversity are not only discussed, but further strengthened and experienced in everyday school life.

The workshop was therefore not simply about planning what comes next. It was an important step in building a network of Resource Centres that can learn from one another, support other schools and contribute to a stronger culture of democratic education across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The vision is shared. The next step is turning it into action.
