A draft concept, guidelines as well as the tools for monitoring and assuring the quality of healthcare services in prisons have been developed by Council of Europe experts within joint Council of Europe and Europena Union project on improving healthcare services in Georgian prisons. During a 2-day workshop, on 3-4 December 2016 the experts and the representatives from the Ministry of Corrections of Georgia (MoC) had the possibility to discuss and exchange the opinions around presented draft documents.
The strategy and guidelines among others cover the description of the proposed quality assurance approach, its preconditions, core elements, proposed stages of introduction, working method, monitoring tools, etc.
The tools are expected to be used for monitoring, quality assurance and will contribute improvement of the healthcare services in the prisons.
The Council of Europe and European Union will continue assisting the Ministry of Corrections and Probation of Georgia (MoC) in introducing the quality control of the healthcare services in prisons.
The activity has been organised within the framework of the CoE/EU Eastern Partnership Programmatic Cooperation Framework Project “Human Rights and Healthcare in prisons and Other Closed Institutions in Georgia II”.
