Roma Awareness and Communication with Vulnerable Groups

Staff members of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (HREIT) enhanced their knowledge and skills through a specialised training on Roma inclusion and rights-based communication. The event enabled experts and practitioners to enhance their knowledge and practical skills on Roma inclusion, anti-discrimination, and rights-based communication.

The training began with an introductory session providing an overview of the Roma Integration Phase III Programme. Participants then explored the historical origins of Roma communities and the current situation of Roma living in Türkiye. Building on this, a second session examined social inclusion policies for Roma communities in Türkiye, provided an international perspective on Roma inclusion and related public policies.

In the afternoon, participants took part in interactive sessions on discrimination and rights-based communication with disadvantaged groups. Through practical exercises and case studies, they explored effective, rights-based approaches to communication in the context of human rights applications.

The event strengthened the capacity of HREIT staff to engage with Roma communities and other vulnerable groups in line with human rights standards.

This activity was organised within the framework of the "Roma Integration Programme Phase III" a Joint Programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe.
