Regional TeacherNet Workshops held in Skopje and Tirana

Inclusive teacher values diversity

The inclusive teacher values student diversity, supports all learners, works with others and pursues personal professional development. More than 140 participants from all over South East Europe shared this vision of an inclusive teacher at Regional TeacherNet Workshops held in Skopje and Tirana. They all agreed on the areas of competences of an inclusive teacher.

  1. Initial Teacher Education for Inclusion Skopje Workshop
  2. Continuous teacher professional development for Inclusion Skopje Workshop
  3. Teacher Mentorship Training for Inclusion Skopje Workshop
  4. Initial Teacher Education for Inclusion Tirana Workshop
  5. Continuous teacher professional development for Inclusion Tirana Workshop
  6. Teacher Mentorship Training for Inclusion Tirana Workshop

“To achieve inclusive education we need inclusive teacher education, where teaching and learning come together as a shared experience”, said the lead expert Prof. Dr Judith Hollenweger from Zurich University of Teacher Education. She presented the preliminary findings of the mapping study of teacher training programmes for inclusion, on both workshops. The research was carried out in South East Europe. The assembled representatives of pilot schools, policy makers, teacher training providers and universities discussed the research findings. Their feedback will be used for improvement of existing modules and programmes of teacher professional development for inclusion.

Leading moderator of the Skopje Conference Ms Raisa Venäläinen pointed out that “inclusion is about happiness, happiness of the child, happiness of the teacher, happiness of the family and everyone else.”

The workshop in Skopje was held on 24-25 June, while in Tirana a week later, on 2-3 July, in organisation of the Joint EU/CoE Project “Regional Support for Inclusive Education”
