PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

Country: Serbia

Organisation responsible: Olympic Committee of Serbia Commission “Women and Sport”

Main topic addressed: Gender equality in leadership

Type of resource/practice: Research / study reports

Discipline: Multi-sport

Target group(s): National sports federations

Timing: Since 2016

Language: Serbian

Brief description of the practice: Since its inception in 1999, the Women's and Sports Commission at the Olympic Committee of Serbia has, as its strategic goal, more participation by women in all areas of sports activities in the country. The last two years have been specifically dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of women's participation in all committees, commissions and working bodies of sports organisations, institutions, and government organisations that manage sports at all levels. Among its numerous activities, a survey was conducted among sports federations and the results were presented during a panel discussion entitled “Women in Sports at Leading Positions”. 28 out of the 40 federations completed the survey and the data collected show a very low presence of women not only in leadership positions, but also in participation (number of athletes) and in coaching. The next objective is to enlarge the sample for the data collection and co-operate with the Government, the Ministry and local sport associations to try to increase the number of women in leading positions in sport.
