VISION 50/50 – ATTRACTING MORE WOMEN INTO SWEDISH GOLF

Country: Sweden

Organisation responsible: Swedish Golf Association

Main topic addressed: Gender equality in participation (grassroots or elite sport)

Type of resource/practice:

  • Educational tools (training activities, curricula, educational materials, etc.)
  • Research / study reports

Discipline: Multi-sport

Target group(s): Swedish Golf Association, its divisions and associations

Timing: Since 2014

Language: Swedish

Brief description of the practice: In 2014, the Swedish Golf Association established some gender equality objectives to be achieved by 2020, to increase the participation of women in golf and the number of women on boards at all levels of the sport. In order to reach these goals and work towards the changes needed, the Swedish Golf Federation focuses mainly on the Vision 50/50 process. In this process, golf clubs are given the opportunity to work with their own development plan to attract more women. The process is divided into three rounds overall. In the first round the clubs receive a gender education, developed by a professional researcher, and carry out a status analysis. In the second round the clubs decide their own goals and activities and in the final round they implement their plan. The process takes about 12 months to be finalised and implemented and clubs are supported by the Swedish Golf Federation at every stage. As of September 2018, about 80 golf clubs are involved in the process.
