“CHACHIPE” - “The Truth” – Celebrating Roma Heritage

The installation “CHACHIPE” - “The Truth” was displayed in the city centre of Tirana on April 11, 2024, in celebration of International Roma Day and Week.

Aiming to enhance the narratives about Roma and improve public opinion and knowledge about Roma people and their persistent efforts towards achieving equal rights, the installation took the form of a labyrinth featuring evocative visuals, promoting Roma history and heritage. This joint initiative sought to convey a positive message, highlighting the strength and continuous endeavours of the Roma in their pursuit of equality.

This initiative was organised by Roma Integration III in collaboration with the Municipality of Tirana, the European Union Delegation in Albania, and the Joint Programme of the Council of Europe and European Union, “ROMACTED II”.

Roma Week in Albania serves as a vital platform for celebrating the diverse and vibrant culture of the Roma people, fostering dialogue, and promoting mutual respect. "CHACHIPE" - "The Truth" stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the ongoing quest for justice and equality for the Roma people.

By bringing together different stakeholders, this event aimed to inspire greater inclusivity and recognition of the Roma community's significant contributions to society. The installation invited the public to engage, learn, and celebrate the rich traditions and history of the Roma people.

The activity was financially supported by the European Union and the Council of Europe. The collaboration underscores the commitment of these institutions to enhancing the visibility and empowerment of the Roma community through cultural appreciation and advocacy.
