COMUS Pilot Town Goris has been declared a CIS Cultural Capital 2018

On 7 April 2017 at the session of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Council of Foreign Ministers in Tashkent, Uzbekistan decided to endorse a draft decision on declaring the Armenian city of Goris as the CIS Cultural Capital 2018.

CIS is an organization with eleven former Soviet Republic members, which are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. In 2013 another COMUS Pilot Town in Armenia Gyumri was entitled as the CIS Cultural Capital.

This decision was a result of COMUS Goris PIU effort, where the proposal was drafted with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia. Currently an action plan is being developed on both national and local levels to host series of events in 2018.
