The closing event of the Joint European Union and Council of Europe Programme “Roma Women’s Access to Justice - JUSTROM” took place in hybrid format in Strasbourg on 23-24 February 2022.
On its first working day, the primary aim of the event was to discuss the role of equality bodies and national human rights institutions in advancing Roma women’s rights and enhancing their access to justice. Conversely, the second day of the closing event was dedicated to taking stock of the results and accomplishments achieved by the JUSTROM Programme over its five years of implementation in Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Romania. The conference was marked by a great number of interventions from a wide range of diverse actors, partners and stakeholders of the JUSTROM programme, as well as representatives of both national and international institutions and organisations, who acknowledged the stride made by the programme so far in enhancing Roma women’s access to justice. Additionally, the closing event offered the audience a forum to debate on potential efforts and initiatives to develop with a view to ensuring the empowerment of Roma women in the near future.
The hybrid event brought together representatives of the European Commission, Council of Europe, equality bodies and national human rights institutions, Permanent Representations to the Council of Europe of Bulgaria, Greece and Romania, local, national and international stakeholders and collaborators of the JUSTROM programme. In total, 91 participants joined the closing event, either in person or online.
