Representatives of Albanian local and central institutions gathered in Tirana to discuss concrete measures to advance the implementation of the Poznan Commitments. This event was organised in light of Roma International Day, on 8 of April 2024, to reaffirm the joint commitment and to advocate for meaningful dialogue leading to positive change in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Joint Programme of the Council of Europe and European Union “Roma Integration III”.

Ms Albana Koçiu, Minister of Ministry of Health and Social Protection, underlined in her remarks Albania’s commitment as a signatory country to fulfil the objectives outlined in the Poznan Declaration. She affirmed Albania’s appropriate support and promotion of Roma and Egyptian inclusion across all sectors of society. Minister Koçiu highlighted that all Roma and Egyptian jobseekers have been provided with employment and mediation services through the Employment Fund, facilitated by regional employment offices.

Mr Silvio Gonzato, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Albania stated Roma communities are active members of the Albanian society, but they still face obstacles and continue to suffer from prejudices and discrimination. To counter this situation, we need a strong political commitment and adequate resources.

Mr Olsi Dekovi, Deputy Head of Office of the Council of Europe in Tirana emphasized that “to translate the recommendations of the Poznan Declaration into reality, we must engage in effective dialogue, which is not only inclusive but also action-oriented”.

Representatives from the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Kadaster Agency, municipalities, Roma civil society and Roma activists actively discussed the measures to be undertaken to push forward the implementation of Poznan Commitments.  Maintaining inter-institutional synergies throughout the process and ensuring sustainable solutions to work collaboratively towards solutions was deemed of outmost importance.  

Following the meeting's outcomes, the Roma Integration III Programme will share with all relevant stakeholders the recommendations document which will guide national authorities to effectively implement the Poznan Declaration.
