Four Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) met online with the Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine. The discussion focused on ongoing activities organised the Council of Europe and exploring opportunities for further co-operation in combating discrimination and hate speech in Ukraine.
Prior to this meeting, the YEAs from Ukraine participated in regional training and seminars in 2023 and 2024. These programmes, organised by the Council of Europe, equipped them with methods to effectively address hate speech and discrimination by promoting equality and creating counter-narratives to hatred.
The YEAs emphasised the value of these activities that improved their understanding of diversity, hate speech and equality alongside peers from the East and Southeast Europe regions.
Future actions will involve the YEAs in several initiatives. They will participate in creating counter-narratives to combat hate speech on social media. Additionally, they will collaborate on awareness-raising actions for young people. This collaboration will involve the project “Combating hate speech in Ukraine”, aiming to combat hate speech and intolerance and promote equality and inclusion within the Ukrainian society.
