Joint Efforts on the EU accession path: Experience exchange between the Ukrainian and Latvian Constitutional Courts

Judges and legal staff from the Constitutional Courts of Ukraine and Latvia met in Riga with the aim to exchange experiences on Ukraine’s European integration through the example of the steps taken by the Latvian legal system to join the EU and NATO.

The meetings in Riga reinforced the dialogue between the two courts, aiming to improve procedures and enhance the quality of legal interpretation in line with the European Convention on Human Rights and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.

Legal staff from both courts discussed specific needs of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Secretariat and Patronage Services, particularly in areas such as draft ruling preparation, research, media and public communication, and recent case law. Half of the Ukrainian Constitutional Court’s judges participated to the dedicated meetings.

This event is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Support to development of the constitutional justice in Ukraine”.
