Training of the Moroccan National Preventive Mechanism against torture kicks-off in Rabat

The Council of Europe launched the first training module for the Moroccan National Preventive Mechanism against torture (NPM) on 13 March 2017 in Rabat. The opening session held in the National Institute for Human Rights Training (INFDH) was jointly chaired by the President of the CNDH, Driss El Yazami, the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to Morocco, Rupert Joy, and Markus Jaeger, Head of Division in the Directorate General of Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe.

This five-day capacity-building workshop (13-17 March) is the first in a series of five training modules developed by the Council of Europe, jointly with the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT), for members and staff of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH), as the institution which will carry out the NPM mandate.

This first training on behavior during visits to detention facilities was attended by 27 members and staff of the CNDH and a representative of the Tunisian NPM. The module which was facilitated by international experts, took form of presentations and case studies structured around contacts with the staff working in detention centres and people deprived of their liberty combined with visits to premises.
