The second International Summer Academy for Strengthening Democracy in the Euro-Med Region is taking place from 2 to 7 June 2015 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event is organized for a second consecutive year by the Bulgarian School of Politics “Dimitry Panitza” in cooperation with the Tunisian School of Politics and the Citizen School of Political Studies in Morocco and with the financial support of South Programme II.
The main goal of the Summer Academy is to contribute to the strengthening of a culture of democratic governance in the South Mediterranean through experience sharing among young leaders from Morocco, Tunisia and Bulgaria actively involved in the political life in their respective countries.
Moreover, the event contributes to a better South-South as well as North-South co-operation through the development of capacities of these young leaders, so that they could work together for the promotion and implementation of democratic values, such as multiparty politics, good governance practices, the rule of law, security and human rights throughout their immediate environment and the region.
The event was opened by the Director of the Bulgarian School of Politics, Ms Irina Alexieva, at the presence of the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms Margarita Popova and the Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Ms Delphine Borione. Other working meetings are on the programme, such as with the Bulgarian Foreign Minister and alumni of the Bulgarian School of Politics, Mr Daniel Mitov, and the Secretary General of the Fédération Internationale des Droits de l'Homme (FIDH), Ms Amina Bouayach.
