MedSPAD Committee calls for a strengthened synchronization of data collection in the Mediterranean region

“Mediterranean School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs” (MedSPAD) committee gathered in Lisbon on 21 September 2016 for its 6th meeting devoted to the discussion of monitored trends in the prevalence of substance use and abuse among youth in the Mediterranean region. Set-up in 2014, the primary purpose of the committee is to exchange experiences between the countries of the MedNet Network (Mediterranean network for co-operation on drugs and addictions of the Pompidou Group) who have undertaken the MedSPAD survey and those wishing to do so, in order to build-up the foundations  for  evidence-based prevention policy. Israel, which was for the first time represented in the committee, communicated its intention to undertake the MedSPAD survey in 2017. One of the core decisions agreed in the course of this session called for a harmonization of MedSPAD data for an improved comparability and awareness of substance use by young people in the Mediterranean Region.
