The European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) delivered three training seminars on civil mediation, alternatives to criminal prosecution and judicial communication to its six pilot courts in Tunisia from 4 to 6 July 2017 in Monastir. The seminars were organised jointly with the Ministry of Justice of Tunisia and targeted some 60 judges and lawyers of the pilot courts of Gabes, Kairouan, Nabeul, Sidi Bouzid, Tunis and Zaghouan. In the last session dedicated to media-court relations, journalists have been able to work alongside the legal/judiciary professionals on furthering their understanding of the fundamental principles of judicial communication, including how to secure the effectiveness of communication at times of crisis.
On 10-11 July, the CEPEJ presented three of its pilot projects at an exchange workshop of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on the topic of pilot experiences in support of judicial and penitentiary institutions. Organised in Djerba, the workshop aimed at identifying best practices that can be applied in the upcoming project of the Tunisian Ministry of Justice and the UNDP. Among the projects showcased were the preparation of cases and management of civilian hearings together with the judiciary dashboards which have attracted considerable interest from the judges of the Medenine Governorate.
