Training workshop for teachers on dealing with harassment and cyberbullying in the school environment

With the growing evolution of information and communication technologies, in this case the Internet, the use of digital technology in the school environment represents a major challenge in terms of safe use for all those involved in the teaching and education system, as confirmed by the use of distance learning during the Covid 19 pandemic. Thus, it is necessary to provide students in particular with the best methods and good practices for dealing with the various forms of delinquency on the Internet, such as cyberbullying, false information and the various facets of cyber-violence, but also to promote the use of the Internet as a means of supporting students and teachers in order to take advantage of its multiple benefits as an essential tool for communication, learning and knowledge sharing.

However, several academic studies have shown that episodes of cyberbullying find their origins in the school environment and suggest that schools should focus their efforts on combating bullying in its most traditional forms in order to act on cyberbullying.

Aware of the seriousness of the situation and with the aim of ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment, the Ministry of National Education, Pre-schools and Sports, the Moroccan Center for Polytechnic Research and Innovation- CMRPI and with the support of the Council of Europe in the framework of the South Programme V, organised a second two-day training course in Marrakech from 3 to 4 November 2022 on dealing with harassment and cyberbullying situations in the school environment for teachers. This pilot project, launched as part of Safer Internet Day 2021, will be extended to all 12 AREFs (regional education and training academies) from 2022.

The two-day workshop was led by cybercrime experts, lawyers and childcare professionals and brought together 25 teachers from the Marrakech region to enable them to acquire the knowledge to implement a policy of prevention, detection and treatment of school harassment and cyberbullying situations, to come to the aid of the target pupil and also to make them aware of the laws and procedures in order to inform the families.

The South Programme V is a joint programme of the Council of Europe and the European Union, financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
