The National School for the Training of Assistant Police Officers in Bizerte hosted, on 2 February 2026, representatives of the Council of Europe Office in Tunisia, accompanied by international experts, as part of the preparations for a national simulation exercise on combating human trafficking. The exercise is scheduled to take place in September 2026 at the School’s Simulation Centre.
The visit offered a valuable opportunity to explore the facilities and engage in discussions about the technical, educational, and organizational requirements essential for implementing this large-scale exercise. The exercise is designed around realistic scenarios and follows an operational approach grounded in human rights principles.
The initiative aims to bring together around 60 participants from all relevant national institutions, as well as civil society organisations. It is part of an inter-institutional and multidisciplinary approach aimed at strengthening cooperation among stakeholders involved at every stage of the fight against human trafficking.
This simulation exercise represents a key step in enhancing national coordination, strengthening operational capacities of relevant stakeholders and consolidating Tunisia’s system for the prevention, detection and prosecution of human trafficking offences, in line with international standards.
This activity is organised with the support of the joint European Union-Council of Europe programme entitled "Strengthening the Euro-Mediterranean legal space for shared prosperity and human security" (South Programme VI), co-financed by both organisations and implemented by the Council of Europe.
