Promoting the Access to Information: Insights from Euro-Mediterranean Regional Exchange

In an effort to strengthen transparent governance and safeguard the right of access to information, the Council of Europe in the framework of the South Programme V organised in partnership with the Moroccon Commission for the Right of Access to Information (CDAI) a regional conference on "Euro-Mediterranean Approaches on Access to Information" on 22 April in Rabat, Morocco. 

Bringing together a high number of institutional representatives on Access to Information from Morocco, Tunisia, Lebanon, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Serbia, North Macedonia and Georgia, the conference facilitated the dialogue through the sharing of good practices and knowledge about the standards of the Council of Europe, and in particular the Convention on Access to Official Documents (Tromsø Convention).

The participants engaged in fruitful discussion on case studies and peer-to-peer exchanges with the Council of Europe experts providing recommendations for the establishment of a benchmark on self-assessment indicators performance in the field of the access to information and valuable insights of the improvement of the mechanisms and tools in the South Mediterranean region (Morocco, Tunisia and Lebanon) and in European States.

 

This activity was organised with the support of the South Progrmme V, a joint initiative between the European Union and the Council of Europe, co-financed by the two organisation and implemented by the Council of Europe.
