25 criminal justice actors involved in the fight against trafficking in human beings from Algeria and Tunisia, including representatives of national authorities, law enforcement agencies and magistrates participated in the practical exercise “Combatting trafficking in human beings: strengthening international cooperation in criminal matters” on 25-26 June 2025 in Algiers.
Rooted in a human rights-based approach with a strong emphasis on victim protection, the exercise intends to equip key stakeholders in the criminal justice chain with actionable skills and practical tools necessary for effective international police and judicial cooperation.
Through scenario-driven role-play based on authentic case studies, participants improved their capabilities to coordinate multi-jurisdictional investigations, exchange critical information securely, and pursue effective prosecution strategies against human trafficking networks.
The activity is organised by the Council of Europe Office in Tunis as part of its Policy towards neighbouring regions, including the Neighbourhood Partnership with Tunisia 2022-2025. It is supported by Switzerland with the contribution of the South Programme V "Protecting human rights, rule of law and democracy through shared standards in the Southern Mediterranean", a joint initiative between the European Union and the Council of Europe over the period 2022 – 2025.
