Monthly meeting for the inter-sectorial coordination of the protection of women victims of violence

In 2008 Tunisia endorsed a national strategy to combat violence against women that is based on a participatory approach with a view of bringing together all the relevant stakeholders. This strategy aims to combat all forms of violence against women, to raise public awareness and to prevent the negative consequences of these acts, while at the same time promoting the setting-up of inter-sectorial mechanisms to better respond to these challenges.

In the context of the implementation of the law passed by Tunisia in February 2018, the South Programme III provides assistance for the enhancement of these inter-sectorial mechanisms by supporting multi-agency roundtables aimed at monitoring and evaluating policies and practices to combat violence against women.

The meeting held on 27 November 2018 at the Ben Arous Psychological Assistance Centre, which falls under the jurisdiction of the National Office for the Family and Population (CAP-ONFP), gathered doctors, psychologists, midwives, prosecutors, social workers and representatives of NGOs. Together they discussed the statistical data for each relevant sector, the practical challenges related to multi-sectorial assistance, as well as the development of quantitative and qualitative indicators. It is envisaged to subsequently duplicate this initiative in other localities of Greater Tunis in the near future.

The South Programme III is a joint programme of the Council of Europe and the European Union, financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
