Enhancing business integrity and compliance in the private sector in the MENA region

A regional workshop on “The role of anti-corruption agencies to enhance business integrity and compliance in the private sector” was organised in Amman, Jordan in cooperation with the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-corruption Commission.

Participants were welcomed by H.E. Sami Salaita, Vice Chairperson of the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-corruption Commission, Ms Pilar Morales, Coordinator of the Neighbourhood Policy with the Southern Mediterranean of the Council of Europe and Patrick Lambrechts, Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union in Jordan. Over 30 representatives of the public and private sectors as well as civil society from the Southern Mediterranean region participated in this event.

The regional workshop aimed to raise awareness among anti-corruption agencies and other relevant institutions on international standards and good practices on business integrity and anti-corruption compliance. The participants exchanged on concepts and functions of private sector corruption and the role of relevant institutions as well as on the challenges faced by the relevant stakeholders in introducing and applying integrity measures and countering economic crimes.

The workshop was organised in parallel with a mission of two joint initiatives of the Council of Europe and the European Union, namely the South Programme V and the CyberSouth+, organised in Amman, Jordan, on 22-25 April 2024. The mission focused on providing technical support on strengthening the national legal framework on the protection of personal data and defining priorities to combat cybercrime within the framework of the recently launched CyberSouth+ programme (2024-2026) under which Jordan is a priority partner country.
