Combating trafficking in human beings: French-Arabic Compendium of judgments and decisions of the European court of human rights

The South Programme1 has supported the publication of a compendium entitled “Combating trafficking in human beings: compilation of legal summaries and decisions of the European court of human rights”. This publication gathers legal summaries of judgments and decisions of the Court in the field of fighting trafficking in human beings in French and Arabic.

The judgments and decisions are based on the European Convention on Human Rights and namely on its article 4 prohibiting slavery and forced labour by Member States , as well as on the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings which refers to trafficking in human beings as a serious violation of human rights, as well as an infringement of human dignity and integrity.

The compendium is mainly intended for legal professionals of the Southern Mediterranean region, - prosecutors, judges, attorneys-at-law, - in charge of cases of trafficking in human beings. It will also serve as a basis to other relevant actors, in particular academics and non-governmental organisations, active in the field of anti-trafficking. It will be spread within the training activities supported by the Programme aimed at strengthening regional cooperation between the above-mentioned actors.
