UNESCO's Sport and Gender Equality Game Plan has been developed within the framework of Fit for Life and with the support of UN Women and the Spotlight Initiative to end violence against women and girls. It aims to support decision-makers in government and sports organizations design and deliver evidence-based policies and programmes that advance sustainable, social transformations related to gender equality in and through sports.
The Sport and Gender Equality Game Plan has been called for by practitioners, experts and representatives of the 110 countries participating in UNESCO’s 7th Global Conference of Sports Ministers (MINEPS VII), who noted its role ‘as a central tool to translate relevant international policy frameworks and initiatives into action'.
Content includes evidence on key gender gaps, tools and good practice examples to address inequalities related to leadership, representation, participation and violence prevention – in line with the core priorities of UNESCO’s sport initiative Fit for Life.
