Brief desciption of the resource/practice:

At a time when the sedentary lifestyle of our children is becoming a major public health issue, the French government, local authorities and the sporting movement are joining forces to reverse this trend. Indeed, increasing the volume of sports activities at secondary school, the “30 minutes daily physical activity” at school, thanks to funding from the French Ministry of Sports, the Sport National Agency and the Paris 2024 organizing committee of more than 30,000 kits of sports equipment in primary schools, are all elements that directly contribute to the development of physical and sporting activities in schools.

In order to complement these activities, particularly for children who are still removed from the sports practice and to ensure an equitable sharing of space between girls and boys, the Sport National Agency in close collaboration with the French Ministry of Sports, the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Ministry of Education and Youth and the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, created a dedicated fund to support schools in developing their playgrounds to develop fun and attractive physical activity and sport, while encouraging a less gendered appropriation of these spaces.

170 active, gender-neutral school playgrounds were developed across the country, through a call for projects supported by ANS. In 2024, the aim is to further accelerate the roll-out of this program, by developing 500 active and sporting school playgrounds a year until 2026, for a total of 1,500 schools.
