THE CYCLISTS’ ALLIANCE RIDER SURVEY

Country: International

Organisation responsible: The Cyclists’ Alliance

Main topic addressed: Gender equality in leadership

Type of resource/practice:

  • Awareness-raising initiatives / materials
  • Research / study reports

Discipline: Cycling

Target group(s): Female cyclists

Timing: 2017

Language: English

Brief description of the practice: The Cyclists’ Alliance survey was conducted between February and April 2017 and studied the current work situation in women’s professional cycling. The topics addressed ranged from the education level to salaries to team organisation. The aim was to fully understand the cultural, social, economic, and governance issues that were adopted in the Cyclists’ Alliance Charter. The results of this survey contributed to the creation of guidelines for good working conditions that were presented at the International Cycling Union (UCI) and that have been taken into account in the process of reforming the sport of women's cycling. In fact, a number of these guidelines/ideas coming from the survey will be implemented in the new UCI regulations starting from 2020, such as maternity leave, insurance and an improved code of conduct. The results of the survey are public and available online.
