Brief description of the practice: The aim of this publication is to provide the media with suggestions and guidelines to improve the treatment of sports information by incorporating gender mainstreaming and guaranteeing an adequate portrayal of sportswomen. The guide first shows some examples of how female sport is depicted in the media and of the most common stereotypes and offers advice on how to eradicate them, providing a theoretical basis with a view to raising awareness among the sports media concerning the need of being trained on gender mainstreaming. It also includes a poster, named “Decalogue”, with nine concrete recommendations for making women visible in the field of sport focused on visibility, equality, the use of inclusive language, participation, combating gender stereotypes and raising awareness on gender issues and sexual harassment in sports through the media and among communication professionals.
