Requirement to get safe sport in federations

Organisation responsible:

High Council of Sport

Strategic field:

☒ Combating gender-based violence

Type of resource/practice:

☒ Legislation, policies, standards and guidelines

Target group(s):

☒ Spanish Sport Federations

Brief desciption of the resource/practice:

Spanish Federations must achieve the following requirement in order to receive public funding from High Council of Sport: to have a protocol or guideline for the prevention, detection and fight against sexual harassment and sexual abuse. This protocol must be published.

In order to fight against sexual abuse and sexual harassment in sports, in 2014 in High Council of Sport was decided to incorporate a measure to raise awareness among the federations on sexual harassment.

Therefore, a new requirement was made so that federations could receive public funding from High Council of Sport: to have a protocol in case of sexual harassment in order to prevent and combat sexual harassment.

Information and help were provided from HCS to prepare this protocol. Each Federation had to analyse which were the most dangerous situations, which were the riskiest situations for women or children, and they had to commit themselves to put a solution for them. In addition, they had to assign a person in charge to receive complaints on this issue.
