Seminar on Council of Europe Conventions for the delegation of Uzbekistan

A delegation of seventeen representatives of Uzbek public institutions have participated in the Seminar on Council of Europe Conventions at the Council of Europe Headquarters in Strasbourg (France) on the 26-28 October 2022.

The delegation was composed of representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Parliament (Oliy Majlis), the Ministry of Justice, the General Prosecutors’ office, the Ombudsman of the Oliy Majilis for human rights, the Supreme Court, the Anti-Corruption Agency and the National Human Rights Center.

They had a wide range of exchanges with the Secretariat of the Council of Europe allowing for a better understanding of the Council of Europe Conventions, in particular the commitments, benefits and implications for the national system and ongoing reforms carried out in Uzbekistan.

Emphasis was put on Council of Europe Conventions in the field of criminal law, corruption and Cybercrime. Information was provided on the process of accession and the modalities of implementation, enabling them, in future, to initiate and possibly pursue the work towards accession procedure.

The visit confirmed the relevance of the Central Asia Rule of Law Programme and allowed to identify additional tailored activities in the country.

This working visit was organised in the framework of the Central Asia Rule of Law Programme 2020-2023, joint initiative co-funded by the Council of Europe and the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe.
