Second study visit on Council of Europe conventions for Kyrgyz delegation

Fourteen representatives of the public institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic participated in a seminar on Council of Europe Conventions at the Council of Europe Headquarters in Strasbourg, France from 4th to 6th March 2024.

The delegation included representatives of the Presidential Administration, Parliament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Digital Development and General Prosecutor’s Office.

Participants received first-hand information from the Secretariat of the Council of Europe on Council of Europe Conventions of their interest, enhancing their understanding of the accession process, commitments, benefits and implications of accession for the legislative system of the Kyrgyz Republic.

At the request of the Kyrgyz side, this seminar particularly focused on the Criminal Law Convention on Corruption, the Convention on Cybercrime (Budapest Convention), the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention), the Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings, as well as the Convention for the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data.

Discussions confirmed the interest of the Kyrgyz Republic to continue co-operation with the Council of Europe and advance its work on possible accession to the respective conventions. This seminar follows a series of exchanges held in the framework of a first seminar organised in 2023.

This seminar was organised in the framework of the Central Asia Rule of Law Programme 2020-2024 co-funded by the Council of Europe and the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe.
