North Macedonia: Regional Training Workshops held to enhance Implementation of Legal Amendments for Vulnerable Groups

On 4 and 26 November 2024, two regional training workshops were conducted in Skopje and Ohrid to support the implementation of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Reporting Residence and Stay and the Law on Amendments to the Law on Personal Identification Cards.

The legislative changes, adopted in 2023, aim to simplify the process of obtaining personal documents for vulnerable groups and play a significant role in combating statelessness. These workshops strengthened the capacities of key institutions—including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, municipalities, and social work centres—ensuring a more efficient application of the amendments. Participants had the opportunity to share experiences, overcome legal and practical barriers, and strengthen inter-institutional cooperation.

This initiative is part of the Joint European Union and Council of Europe Roma Integration – Phase III Programme, supported by the Council of Europe Programme Office in Skopje and implemented by the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association (MYLA).

By enhancing institutional capacities and fostering inclusivity, these efforts underline the commitment to transforming legislative changes into meaningful progress for marginalised communities.
