Increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Equality Council recommendations - key tool in fighting discrimination in Moldova

The EU/CoE Partnership for Good Governance supports the Moldovan Equality Council (Council for Preventing and Eliminating Discrimination and Ensuring Equality - CPEDEE) in increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of its recommendations.

On 23 and 24 November, a 2-days round of discussions was conducted remotely with the representatives of the Moldovan Equality Council and anti-discrimination expert contracted by the Council of Europe.

These discussions launch the first phase of the broader activity aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the recommendations issued by the Equality Council in its decisions in cases of discrimination.

The discussions were focused on the positive change in equality and non-discrimination fields that the Equality Council wants to achieve with its recommendations in the Republic of Moldova. The expert offered analysis from three different perspectives – applicants/petitioners in discrimination cases, respondents, and the procedures in managing complaints by the Equality Council.

As a next phase of this activity, and based on the discussions results, a tailor designed workshop will be organised for the staff of the Equality Council. The workshop will enable the participants to enhance their capacities and adaptability in the context of the currently available resources and the existing challenges.

This activity is organised as part of the assistance provided to the Moldovan Equality Council, partner institution of the national project “Strengthening the capacities of the justice sector actors to deliver justice in line with European standards, in particular to fight discrimination in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented in the frame of the joint EU/CoE Programme “Partnership for Good Governance II”.
