Type of resource/practice: Awareness-raising initiatives / materials

Discipline: Multi-sport

Target group(s): Young people aged 13-25, young adults aged 25-40

Timing: March 2017 – March 2018

Brief description of the practice: The street sports and culture movement “Ghetto Games” is the biggest youth and street culture movement in Latvia. Historically there has been convincing dominance of young men and boys in Ghetto Games events (90%). To address this disproportion, the Ghetto Lady movement was initiated to promote participation of young women and girls in Ghetto Games. The main aim of it was to prevent violent behaviour and to promote respect towards women among young people (especially in street sports and culture), through a campaign aimed at strengthening their perception of equality as a value and encouraging boys and young men to actively engage in the fight against violence against women. Other activities were also organised, such as street culture and sport activities, to enhance the participation of young women, and awareness-raising videos on how to identify physical and psychological violence.
