An international conference entitled “Fight against human trafficking. Shared experiences between Tunisia and Europe” organised by the Council of Europe together with the Ministry of Justice of Tunisia and the International Organisation for Migration took place on 20 and 21 January 2016 in Tunis.
The conference featured Tunisian and European experts from different backgrounds and sectors (government, non-state actors, and international organisations) who exchanged best practices particularly in terms of identifying and assisting victims of trafficking, as well as on the prosecution and the dismantling of networks of traffickers and child trafficking, in light of existing international standards.
Organised within the framework of the cooperation established between the Council of Europe and Tunisia under the South II Programme, the conference also aimed at strengthening and enhancing the country's efforts against this serious violation of human rights that undermines the dignity of persons, and to support the adoption of an organic law on the prevention and fight against human trafficking which bill is currently under discussion in the Tunisian Parliament.
