The Schools of Political Studies of Morocco and Tunisia at the World Forum for Democracy: ‟Is Populism a Problem?”

Young political leaders from the Council of Europe’s Schools of Political Studies of Tunis and Rabat took part in the sixth session of the World Forum for Democracy held on 8-10 November 2017 in Strasbourg.

The forum brought together more than 1500 participants including international experts, politicians, and representatives of international organisations, the media, civil society, and academia to debate the role of political parties and the media in the context of rising populism.

The debates of the forum were organised around three main panels which addressed the strong ties needed between research, policy, and society to counter populism; responses to anti-migrant populist discourse and gender equality. Likewise, thirteen "lab" sessions have allowed addressing the challenges from different angles, thus contributing to identify democratic responses to the issues raised throughout the Forum. Finally, a series of side events such as meetings between the representatives of different schools followed by a visit to the European Court of Human Rights have further given the opportunity for a sharing of experience and opinions on the topic of this year’s forum.
