The Council of Europe, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women, Family and Childhood of Tunisia, has organised a seminar in Tunis on 5 June 2015 with a view to presenting and exchanging views on the Council of Europe’s Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, known as Lanzarote Convention.
The event took place in the framework of the process of elaboration of Tunisia’s national strategy to prevent and fight sexual exploitation and abuse of children. According to the Tunisian Constitution’s provisions and namely its Article 47, “children have the right to be guaranteed dignity, health, care, education and teaching by their parents and the State. The State shall provide all forms of protection to all children without discrimination according to the best interests of the child”.
Officials of the Ministry of Women, the Ministry of Interior and of other national bodies committed to the fight against child abuse attended the seminar and discussed with CoE experts possible avenues of co-operation based on CoE Conventions as well as other European and international standards in the field.
