A workshop that focused on the practical aspects of investigating cases of discrimination, hate speech and prejudice-motivated crimes , was organised together with the Equality Council and the General Police Inspectorate of the Republic of Moldova. This is part of the inter-institutional co-operation platform established with the Council of Europe support.
Through this targeted work, it is expected that reporting, analysis, and qualification of cases involving discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes are improved. This improvement will empowering relevant parties to respond more effectively to challenges and provide better protection for victims of discrimination, hate speech and prejudice-motivated crimes.
During the workshop, participants emphasised the importance of ongoing dialogue and the exchange of best practices through further meetings and joint training sessions. There is a need to engage the general public in combating stigmatisation through awareness raising initiatives. Such joint efforts can promote equality, dignity and freedom in the country, while also working to prevent the rise of hatred in society, particularly during the period ahead of Parliamentary elections in autumn 2025.
This event builds on previous collaborative efforts to ensure proper law enforcement in the country and effective functioning of the principles of equality (I-st meeting - 13 November 2023, II-nd meeting - 11 December 2024), and entailed steps forward in enhancing national redress and access to justice for discriminated persons and for the protection of victims.
This event is part of the programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Combating discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova”.
