Strengthening co-operation: Ukrainian Constitutional Court delegation visits the Council of Europe and EU institutions

A delegation from the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU) visited the Council of Europe in France and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in Luxembourg, to discuss ongoing co-operation and explore further steps in the development of the constitutional justice in Ukraine.

During the exchanges held in meetings with Council of Europe monitoring bodies, special attention was given to the role of the CCU in protecting social rights, particularly considering the challenges posed by limitations on social rights amid ongoing social reforms and martial law.

Oleksandr Petryshyn, acting President of the CCU, participating to the visits, described the work of the Partnership for Good Governance to strengthen the justice sector in Ukraine as the most successful international technical assistance initiative in CCU’s experience: “Specific recommendations have been implemented into concrete decisions of the Constitutional Court. We feel more competent…we are growing, improving our work, and moving forward, leading others toward the standards of the Council of Europe.”

This visit is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Support to development of the constitutional justice in Ukraine”.
